Roberto confirms Aguero bid

ROBERTO MANCINI expects Manchester City to make a bid for Sergio Aguero this week

The £45million-rated Atletico Madrid striker, 23, is seen as the ideal replacement for Carlos Tevez.

Tevez looks certain to leave for Corinthians this summer with City in negotiations with the Brazilian side.

Asked if they would make an offer for Aguero, City boss Mancini said: "Maybe in the next few days.

"I have not spoken to anyone about it but probably. I think so."

Mancini, who is on a pre-season tour in Canada with City, admits he is unsure how close Tevez is to leaving.

He added: "I slept last night and I had a game to prepare for today so I don't know any more.

"The clubs are talking. They only have one number and it does not work at the moment."

City and England midfielder Gareth Barry would welcome the signing of Aguero.

He said: "Aguero is a very exciting player from what I have seen on TV.

"He is a class act. Names like that will excite fans and the players."

Barry revealed Tevez's exit has been discussed among his team-mates during the tour.

He added: "There has obviously been the odd chat about Carlos.

"He has made it clear he is ready to leave and the players will respect his decision.

"It is down to the club to decide what fee they want for Carlos.

"We would be sad to lose him because he is a class player who has worked really hard for the club.

"If you believe what you read, then yes, he has played his last game. But he has been great for Manchester City.

"He has helped the club win its first trophy and he has always given 100 per cent. We are grateful for that."

City beat Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 in a friendly last night with young striker John Guidetti on the scoresheet.

Barry added: "John is young. He is a good player and I think he can have a good future at Manchester City.

"He is strong. He is a typical English striker, even though he is Swedish. He has a good technique. He wants to improve.

"He will have time here. It is important that he continues to work well and continues to improve.

"He scored a good goal but when you are a young player, you need to improve every day. This year is important. He has a chance.
